Pork Belly Beer House on Bidwell and Robson, Vancouver

SAMGYEOPSAL! SAMGYEOPSAL! SAMGYEOPSAL!

Yes, I’m that excited about this restaurant. This hole in the wall restaurant is truly a gem, and if it weren’t for Chowtimes.. well I would never have known. So the night before I was to fly out to Toronto for work, we had a total guys day. We spent an afternoon of playing COD:MW2 ’till we finally realized we were hungry, and so made the trip downtown for some AYCE pork belly.

Do ya know where Guu on Robson is? It’s on Robson at the corner of Bidwell. From there, you should be able to see a yellow awning along Bidwell. There’s no lettering on it, but that’s where this place is. The place is visibly dirty, but don’t let that deter you because the food is not. When you make your visit here, you may want to wear some older clothes as there are no fans so you WILL smell like BBQ. Unless that’s what turns your wheels…I won’t judge. The bacon will also splatter a lot, so maybe wear a long sleeve up top to prevent oil burns.

For $10, you can have a single plate of pork belly.. or for $16 you can have AYCE. Trust me, you will go through that first plate pretty quickly so you might as well just go with the AYCE. The slices look big but most of the fat is cooked off on the grill.  Supposedly there’s rice and soup included in the price but we never once asked for it, we were more than content on just filling up on lettuce, bacon and kimchi. Whenever you run out of something, be it the lettuce, onions, jalapenos, garlic slices, mushrooms, kimchi or salad, just ask and they’ll refill it for ya.

This was the first plate of pork belly. We had 4 plates total, each just as big a plate as the first. To make it easier and faster to cook on the grill, you could cut it up with the scissors provided.. but after a while we just gave up and laid them down piece by piece.
