On a beautiful (sunny!) May afternoon after a party at Raincity Grill for their 20th anniversary, Rick Val and I walked up Davie Street in search of some more food and ended up at La Brasserie.

A very small space that sits probably 30 max with an open kitchen, we started off with some complimentary baguette, caraway rye, butter and house made chicken rillette.

Rick had the Truffled Poutine $9. Arriving at the table, it certainly garnered some attention from me with the enticing smell of truffle. read more »

Pacific Western Brewing Tasting @ Vancouver Alpen Club

Once a month, the Vancouver Alpen Club hosts beer tastings and they’re usually free. Check their site, Facebook or Twitter for details of the next one.

Last month, it was Pacific Western Brewing that was having a tasting. The last time I actually did a beer tasting was at EAT! Vancouver in 2009, where I first tried out Lambic Beers.

The crowd was varied.. and Kevin came along with me. Who can say no to free beer? Apparently Maurice and Jeff can, as they both decided not to come last minute.

Just like wine tastings, you start from the lightest and work your way to the heaviest and most flavourful beers. I actually had the tasting notes but I gave mine to the guy sitting beside me, and then I couldn’t find anymore on the tables later on. Damn it man. I’ll just have to fill in what I remember from what the guy said to us. read more »
