July 1st, 2012 (Canada Day) + The Oakwood Canadian Bistro
I made my way to The Oakwood Canadian Bisto for two reasons, to visit an old friend, my ex-First Cook, and to try out their food. Unfortunately, I only accomplished the latter as he was gone on vacation, but that only means I’ll get another chance to visit again.
Coming from work, I already had in mind what I was going to order. Not the $11 brunch items, which in all actuality is a great deal considering it’s all local and made in house, but the Burger.
The Oakwood Burger: sesame bun, buttermilk fried onions, applewood cheddar, relish, aioli and alfalfa sprouts $15
Here the burger patty is house ground meat and made per order, cooked the way you want. I chose for medium rare, and it came out still pink and soft inside, perfect! I liked the use of alfalfa sprouts and the modest amount of fried onions on the bottom. The only bad thing I can say is where’s the tomato? I also wasn’t a total fan of the bun, quite doughy and dense. Other than that, it was a very damn good burger, something I can and will order again.
