There is no surprise I’d eat at a Xiao Long Bao 小龍包 place when I’m in Shanghai.The best I’ve had in Shanghai is in the heart of Yu Yuan Garden (Line 10 on the Shanghai Metro). This restaurant and many around it serve the famous Xiao Long Bao 小龍包 and their giant dumpling soup.
Nan Xiang Man Tou Dian. There’s a giant crowd on the main floor waiting for take out, the dine in restaurant is upstairs on the 2nd floor.
Their XLB is amazing! Why? Because the dumpling skin is thin enough so it’s not overwhelming, but it’s strong enough to hold all the juicy soup inside.
The Crab Roe Dumpling has little pieces of crab roe within the the pork and it’s one of my favorites.
We also had their Shrimp Ball Crab Roe Soup; they are ordered by piece.
Within the crouto-ed fried shrimp ball, there was pieces of crab roe in the center.
