Chill Winston, Gastown, Vancouver

With our friend Robert in town from Edmonton, we took him out to do as many touristy things as possible, one of which includes going to Gastown and seeing the Gassy Jack Statue and our famous Steam Clock. All this walking around town meant we had to stop for some food to replenish before dinner, so we stopped at Chill Winston for some appies and drinks.

Chill Winston occupies so much patio space on their corner, it’s a little outrageous. Even with all this space, you can still expect a wait during summer if you want a table, as there are usually some set aside for reservations. Not wanting to bother with waiting, as it was one of those dreary cloudy “summer” July days, we sat inside on their comfy couches.

For myself, I ordered their Tasting Flight – Three 40z beers for $9. Yep, these are the beers that I had as the Animated Food #2 post.

Carmen ordered the Double Jack Poutine 9 – The Canadian classic with Jack Daniels demi glace, cheese curds, cheddar, and Monterey jack cheeses.

Tina ordered the Yam Chips 8 – Thin sliced yams deep fried topped with house made hummus and Harissa. Unfortunately, the entire batch of yam fries tasted burnt, as they were fried for too long, combined with being so thin made them unpleasant to eat.. suffice to say, we left a good amount of it alone.

After this, we headed over to Alibi Room for some beers, but it was busy so we were shown the downstairs. Bad idea, don’t ever sit downstairs if you want the frat bat, as they aren’t served down there. Something about different liquor licenses or what not. Anyways, the wait upstairs was too long so we just left and went elsewhere to have some drinks.
