Floata Seafood

To me, Float is the definition of dimsum in Chinatown. Come early enough and you can catch their early bird special where everything is $2.00 (I think)

Although it’s seen better days and is not as grand and busy as it used to be, Float is still well kept as it was and still is a place where grand Chinese weddings would take place.

Without my parents with us there to order, my sister and I would be pretty much lost, no matter how much she’ll try to convince you she’ll be fine. In reality, she probably can read less Chinese than I can, which isn’t a lot in the first place. She might be more fluent and know more, but that’s the only advantage she has over me. ;)

Since I don’t know all the names of these dishes, let alone in Mandarin, this may be a little difficult. From top Left going clockwise, we have Yu See Gao (??),  Xia Jiao (蝦餃), Shao Mai (燒賣)

Zha Liang (炸兩) the you tiao inside were surprisingly dense and not very oily/greasy at all.

Floata Seafood-06

Just plain old regular rice noodle rolls (豬腸粉).

Here comes the fun part where you can all laugh at my horrible descriptions…and no, I did not position these on purpose, that’s how they laid them out on the table for us!

Floata Seafood-08

Tofu puff with vermicelli noodles.

Floata Seafood-09

Ummmm…..tripe? Cow stomach? Very chewy yet soft and almost dissolved in your mouth.. the only thing is I feel it was a bit too sauce-y.

Duck feet. Mmmm webbing. Strangely, I enjoyed this more so than the other kind of fowl feet because of the webbing, it gave it more substance.

Chicken feet. Apparently I used to eat these as a kid, but now that I’m older I actually don’t see the point of eating this. It’s just cartilage, connective tissue, and bones to gnaw on. My family loves eating it though, but as for me..give me something with more substance and worth my time!

Floata Seafood-12

Tofu puff with dace fish paste (?)

Floata Seafood-13

Meat…..cake. Heh.

Floata Seafood-14

Radish cake.

Floata Seafood-15

Er…deep fried gluten balls with meat? There was 3…but my dad got to it before I could take a picture. You think by now he’d be used to waiting for me to take a picture first, guess not!

Floata Seafood-16

Salty egg yolk sauce bun!!!! In all honesty I don’t know the name for this. Someone please tell me the actual name for it otherwise I will forever call them salty egg yolk sauce buns.

These were definitely not as good as the first time I’ve ever had them at Dragon View Chinese Cuisine. I mean, it wasn’t even runny, it was just doughy!

Floata Seafood-18

Way too much food for just the 4 of us to eat for breakfast. Ungh, so we had to take a bit of everything home. Greasy chinatown dim sum.. good for any meal of the day.

Man, heresy! The point of chicken feet is NOT the meat but, as you pointed out, the cartilage/connective tissue. If you cook it well, it is the collagen that turns into gelatin. Ah, that texture…. :P
