Food and photography in Vancouver, BC
I’m home in Vancouver! This post was drafted up on January 29th.. shows how long it’s been since an actual FOOD post from me!
Tipped off by Brandon, this place would have never crossed my mind. You know how every neighbourhood seems to have their pub? For instance, the one near me would be Elephant Walk Pub at Knight & 41st. Well the one for the neighborhood East of Metrotown would have to be the Great Bear Pub. It may be hard to find, so just keep your eyes open for Denny’s and Po King restaurant. It’s in between the two, so you have to pull into the parking lot to see it.
There’s a big white bear in front. Duh, wasn’t that obvious?
So what was the reason for visiting this pub? After all, it’s not like it’s widely known or famous. Brandon left me a note on Facebook saying that there was a special available on Saturdays for a 8oz NY Steak w/ fries & salad for only $8.95! Turns out it was actually $7.95, even better!
The fries were thick cut, not greasy and super crispy which is just how I love my fries. Very similar to the fries you would get at Red Robin’s. The steak was cooked medium rare as I ordered, and there was a big mound of salad under all those fries as well. The steak was a decent size, about an inch thick. Definitely a great value meal considering this whole plate is less than $10.
Here’s the receipt just to prove that it really was $7.95. A couple of us even thought about ordering another one before the 3rd period of the Canucks game, but decided to save the money to go elsewhere to eat later on. If there was only one thing negative, it was the fact that they had two servers running the whole place. It was a busy night for sure, with both NHL and NFL games going on, so perhaps it was just overlooked in the schedules.. but who knows?
Pulled from their site, they have daily features. While it is typical pub fare, from my experience with the steak, I feel confident about this place.

$7.95 for 8 oz steak, salad and fries, now this is a very good deal. A bit far from downtown but the price is undeniably good. The friday special is also interesting. Add $2 for crabs. Yum!
