Steveston Pizza. For anyone local to Vancouver or Richmond, just saying these two words together don’t really make sense, afterall Steveston is known for its harbour and seafood. Fish and chips should be the first thing that comes to mind, but an amazing little pizza joint resides here. Perhaps they’re there to give the community some variety? Who knows, but for the best pizza in Richmond, this is where you’ll have to go.
Long have I known about Steveston Pizza, but never made the trip because a Vancouverite like myself will balk on travelling out there, but now that I’m a foodie first, no distance is too far (i.e. Ah-Beetz !). Spurred by Randy Shores blog entry about the best pizza in town, Jeff Kevin and I made the trip to Steveston for some pizza! Trust me Sherman, this is the better part of Richmond.
Have you seen their street parking? The spaces are huuuuuge!
On our way there, we, or rather, I, had looked up the menu and other reviews to get an idea of what we should order. Driving across Knight, we phoned in and ordered so that it would be ready by the time we got there. Two larges should be enough for 3 guys, right?
Of course, one of them has to be all meat, and rightly so. Perhaps this was a bad choice though, cause it just tasted like…salty..salty…meat.
Caveman (Large, $22)
Pepperoni, genoa salami, back bacon, lean beef and capocolli
Kevin really wanted his anchovies, but only two pizzas had it and they were only available in Medium, which is definitely not big enough for us to share. Disappointed he was, but the guy taking the call asked his boss and said they could add anchovies onto any pizza, free of charge. With that, we decided to balance out all the meat we just ordered, we should get some green. No, not that green, I’m talking the vegetables kind of green.
Mediterranean (Large – $22)
Feta, olives, seasoned oven-dried tomatoes, green peppers and onions + special request, anchovies
All those tomatoes on each slice, sooo delicious. The contrast of the salty feta cheese and the sweetness of the tomatoes was the perfect balance, I was tempted to just pull all the tomatoes off the other slices and claim them for myself. Jeff and Kevin probably would ahve bludgeoned me to death for doing that though, then there would be no more 604 Foodtography …
We finished the Mediterranean but left two slices of the Caveman. I think they were thinking the same as me, that it was just too much meat to handle.
For two large pizzas + tax, it came out to $46.20. Divided up between 3, we put down $15 each, but none of us had the extra change required for $1.20. The owner & boss said, and I quote “Don’t worry, it’s hard to split a dollar between 3 people.”
From the no charge extra topping, to overlooking the chump change and the delicious gourmet pizzas, Steveston Pizza proves without a shadow of a doubt why they are the best in Richmond. Friendly and exceptional service with equally amazing pizza is what has made this one of my favorite pizzerias.
