Curry King Cafe (Kingsway)

Following a dodgeball tournament, a couple of us were thinking of places to eat. I was really craving curry lamb, but didn’t want to drive to Richmond for various reasons. Since it was still somewhat early, being 10pm~, I knew that Curry King Cafe on Kingsway in Burnaby would still be open.

Now, with a name like Curry King, they better serve some damn good curry.  They do, sort of. Tina ordered their Mango Curry with Prawns.

Jeff as usual, ordered something with rice. Fried rice. He’s kind of like Ben‘s kids who always order fried rice…haha.

Caitlin ordered the Curry Chicken w/ Rice.

Kevin & I both got Green Curry Lamb w/ Rice. Look at how green this is! Does anyone know the difference between green curry, red curry and “regular” yellow curry?

The portion is smaller compared to other cha chang tings, but it definitely doesn’t lack in the quality or flavor. It definitely was good, and there was something interesting in it. A lychee! Sure was interesting to discover this in the curry, but it provided something sweet to balance the spiciness of the curry. There were also small grape tomatoes swimming around, which added sourness to round out the dish.

My only negative bout this place is the price. For the portion, they charge more than places like Alleluia, E-Canteen, Gloucester, etc.. but it was good curry.

Good food, good experience, up till when we had to pay. They only accept cash, but if the collective bill is over $30 you can use debit or credit. I didn’t have any cash on me, so I wanted to pay for my portion of the meal with my card. I asked if they would let me do that since collectively, we had ordered more than $30. Nope, no dice. I ended up charging everything and taking the cash the others paid with. I hate doing that though because I’ll forget that I have to deposit that money or put it back in, and I end up using the cash.

Most of the time, I’m fine with places that are cash only.  We as customers understand that you want to save money on the ridiculous fees that banks charge for the machines and transactions, but sometimes it’s just not convenient and I really hate it!
