This is the 3rd time I am posting about La Taqueria. Overkill? Probably, but I just had to try all of their different taco toppings. That’s how dedicated I am to you all, trying a restaurants entire menu!
Actually, that’s not true, they have quesadillas for $4. Maybe I can make it 4 times? hehe..
So I arranged to meet up with Ed (of EdEdition), Ben (of Chowtimes) and Angie (of Seasaltwithfood) for lunch one Thursday afternoon. Ed was late, as per usual…=p.
While waiting for Ed to find parking, Ben & I stood outside chatting since our last meeting we had at The Alibi Room. There was a lineup inside, but miraculously when Angie showed up, it had mostly cleared out and we had the prime seats right at the counter. This time, I tried out…from top left, clockwise.
Asada (grilled AAA frank beef with cucumber)
Arrachera (house-marinated AAA canadian skirt beef)
De Cachete (braised chilliwack pork cheeks)
Frijoles Charros con Queso (refried cowboy beans with Mexican cheese)
The favorite this time around was Arrachera, you can see there’s a slight pink to the beef so it’s not overcooked and tough. The pork cheeks were slightly sweet, which I think can be attributed to the pineapple.
The frijoles was a major disappointment. It just looked like slop, and was not appealing at all. I ate it first to get it out of the way. Maybe something could have been done to give it a better presentation at least?
Ben & Ed both ordered 4 tacos each, and Angie had a single taco (rajas con crema) because she already had lunch. Seems each time I visit, I notice something new. On the edge of the counter, they’ve hammered in all the bottle caps from the drinks. Creative and cheap decoration.
