I thought that being in Gastown everyday for school would mean I would try out as many places as possible, but I actually haven’t. For many reasons, such as dodgeball, clinic, too tired, errands, no money, etc, I haven’t gone to as many restaurants as I thought I would have. Oh well. At least I’m very familiar with the neighbourhood now.
So, before the Monday Playoffs for VDL, my team had a dinner just to talk about strategy and etc. Originally we had planned to go to Nuba (I did go a couple weeks later, post pending…), but no reservations were made and they get really busy..so I had to quickly think of another place to go to. I’ve been looking at Revel Room for a while now, so I gave them a call. Yes, they had space!
To start off, I had a Red Truck Lager while we waited for the latecomers.
Tyson and I shared a plate of Lamb Samosas – shredded lamb with pistachios & currants, drizzled with garlic tahini, arugula & fennel salad ($10). It was more like lamb in spring roll skins, but they were yummy to munch on.
Brandon ordered the Braised Short Ribs – on soft polenta with cheese, and green beans ($9). The polenta was nearly flavourless (isn’t that usually the case?), but the short ribs were moist and tender.
El & Ty both had the Pulled Pork Sandwich - our in house sweet&smokey bbq sauce, creamy lime coleslaw ($13).
Tor had the Grilled Jerk Chicken – coconut rice and beans, coleslaw, mango puree ($17).
While Brandon and I both had the Classic Revel Burger – Pemberton Meadows beef, aged white cheddar, double smoked bacon, herb aioli ($13). It came with a side of mojos, or as they called them, jojos, aka potato wedges.
The burger was.. decent. It was definitely small for the price, but still good. The bun was really chewy, giving it a lot of substance. The patty was juicy, and I’m not sure if it’s because of the low light, but I saw specks of pink. No problem though, as I’m obviously still here typing this up…
