Cambie Vietnamese Restaurant is, not as the name would have you believe, not located on Cambie St. It’s actually at Main & King Edward, and is definitely easy to find with the big blue awning that says VIETNAMESE in front.
The first thing most will notice is the owner and how friendly and talkative he is. He calls everyone his friend! So we placed our order…
As you can hear from the video, soda lemon pop for all of us! Even though I didn’t want one, oh well. Actually, three of us were sick, so it’s probably a good thing. Kevin ended up getting sick a week after, likely from being around us.
The standard, usual basil, red peppers and lime. Bean sprouts just off to the side.
Kevin had the house special, or Pho Dac Biet.
I actually can’t remember what I ordered, even though there’s a video..it was just “P14″ haha. I think it was tripe and raw beef. The soup had a herbal-y taste to it, and it was less oily than other places.
Jeffs Lemongrass Chicken. The portion looked small, and I didn’t get a bit of it to try…
Now what’s cool, or not, is the fact that when he brought out the food, he told us we could have extra noodles and rice for no extra charge. What kind of place does that? I know, noodles and rice are cheap, overall, but the fact that he is offering is neat. So of course we all had to get some extra noodles…just to fill us up at the end.
When we went up to pay our bill, he told us immediately it was okay if we were short. He even (proudly, I might add) showed us a wall full of Eric Hamber students who had a tab with him! I don’t know, if you don’t have money to go out to eat, why do it then? I would feel bad if I had ate at a restaurant and left without paying in some way or form! I’d wash their dishes or something…
