Long Table Series @ The Irish Heather

So another food blogger meet up in Vancouver, and this time so graciously organized by Kim from I’m Only Here For The Food, we met at The Irish Heather for the wildly popular Long Table Series. This was perfect for me, as I am in Gastown for school and wouldn’t have to wait long after I was off to eat dinner.

I was walking around the block just before 6 when I spotted Kim walking towards me. We walked in together and he told me to keep going, and then mentioned that I should take a picture of the long table before the dinner. Totally forgot that he had gone and blogged about his experience already.

We were ushered into the Shebeen, it was crowded, rowdy and I met Anita, frequent commenter (but not of mine…:() and soon to be blogger. Slowly, the others came in, from Frank, Danny, Jonathan, Sherman, Jenny & Ricky, Joyce & Frank.

Promptly at 630, a bell run was rung and we were told we could make our way to the table and grab a seat. Jessica and Mark joined us there.

With that many food bloggers in one concentrated area (read: the seats are very close and tight) it meant a lot of cameras taking pictures. Got lucky with this one and caught Kims flash.

We started off with a talk from the chef, then a talk from the Steam Whistle company, talking about their beer.

Like the other bloggers will mention on their posts, the Steam Whistler Pilsner is very light. Even so, I saw a couple unfinished beers around me..sigh=p.

Shortly after, the food start coming out. Tonights menu was “½ Roast Lemon/Rosemary Cornish Game Hen With House Cut Chips & Gravy“.

I’m not a big fan of chicken or the likes of, especially in a more formal dinner or restaurant setting because it would be extremely rude to pick it up. Since we were all crowded anyways..I picked up the drumstick and started eating. Just the drumstick though. The gravy was great, though most of it had already been soaked up by the fries, which were quite big. The coleslaw was a little bitter because of the purple cabbage, and would have been better with a little more vinegar. But hey, what can I say, this whole meal, including the beer, was only $12!

I polished my plate pretty quickly as I was super hungry ..it kind of sucked to see the others still eating and not being able to have any. =d

After the food had been cleared away, it left us all to talk about food and some other interesting topics,. All I can say is it was fun, and the communal table contributes to it. Though it does get really loud in there as the voices will bounce off the brick wall.

And….for the first time, video! It’s kind of amusing to see people eat after the fact… haha.
