Those who know me in real life know that I love beer, and I will do almost anything for some. Alibi Room has been in my radar for a while, since my birthday earlier this year (January) but I just never found an occasion or reason to go. A couple weeks ago, I commented on Chowtimes post about Bens low tolerance for beer. After e-mailing back and forth, we decided to meet at the Alibi Room to chat and have some beer.
I’m not 100% sure of this, but I think the menus change to reflect any changes in the beers available, be it from tap or bottle. Typewritten on graph paper, there’s food, wine, on tap, and bottle. On tap, a small beer is $4 and a large is $5.75 (except for the Storm Brewing Lambic Beer). I didn’t try the Storm this time, but I’m definitely coming back to try again though. I have a soft spot for Lambic Beer, as it’s different and distinct. I even sat through a presentation at Eat! Vancouver earlier this year (read my Lambic Beer post)
Though not shown anywhere on the menu (or at least I didn’t see), you can order a “Frat Bat Sampler“, 4 X 4oz of anything on tap for $9. If you’re stuck for what to try, you can let the bartender pick for you. I picked two I wanted to try, Double Chocolate Porter and Swans Buckerfields Raspberry Ale and left the other two up to to bartenders decision. Ben just stipulated that his beers were light, no dark. Kevin also tried the chocolate and raspberry ale, along with a Tin Horn Peach Ale and something else I can’t remember now.
To go along with the beer, I ordered their skinny fries with house made ketchup and garlic chili vinegar. Goes great with the beer.
Though loud and full of people coming after work, I had a great time chatting with Ben. Of course, what else would we talk about besides food, blogs, and cameras? He pulled a sneaky one though, by taking the bill and paying for all this! Next time I will treat you!
