So the day after Green Lemongrass and my wisdom teeth extraction, I wanted congee. For obvious reasons, I could only eat mushy food so congee was top on that list. Since I already visited the Congee Noodle House, I wanted to try the other congee restaurant I knew, Congee Noodle King.
The restaurant is located at the busy intersection of Joyce and Kingsway. No idea if there’s parking in the back, but finding free parking around the area shouldn’t be too difficult.
So..we arrived at 6ish, and ordered three bowls of congee, one for each of us (Kevin and Tina). Tina got some sweet chinese donuts to share with Kevin. I tried to eat it, but I had to let it “dissolve” before I could swallow it.
So the restaurant wasn’t that busy, and Tina’s bowl arrived. 5 minutes later, 10 minutes later, our congee still had not arrived and other tables who arrived after us had received their orders. At this time, Kevin was getting really antsy and angry because he had to rush to work at 7. I decided to tell them to just pack it up to go, since we had to rush. Tina had to clarify this with them in Cantonese since they didn’t seem to really get what I meant in English, but they still brought the bowls out to our table.
Finally we got the congee all packed up, and we paid for the bill and left no tip. Why would we have? There was literally no service at all, we basically just had take out. For a restaurant that specializes in congee, and to have the food come so slow out of the kitchen is just not right. Especially when later customers receive their food first!
Service aside, the congee was good. I wouldn’t mind going again, but maybe I will just call ahead to get take out instead.
