Cherries in my backyard.

I have 4 trees at my house. There’s the apple tree, which is dead and a cherry tree, which produces ridiculous amounts of cherries each year in the back yard, and then a walnut tree and plum tree in the front yard.

This is the cherry tree…it’s huge. :) There’s barely any cherries on it, but before it was like Christmas, green and red everywhere!

No matter how much we picked, it seemed like it would never end…..and we ended up with a LOT of cherries in our fridge and freezer.  Click the picture to see the notes I put on the picture.

Actually, one of these containers wouldn’t be a pound of cherries, it would be even more. At the peak, I’d say we had 8-9 of these containers PLUS the drawers were full.

With this many cherries, and not a lot of recipes that call for fresh cherries, what’s there to do? I thought about making jam, which we did. Seems to be the only things are sweets, otherwise people just eat them fresh. Heck, I even though about organizing a contest where I would give away one container full of cherries to one lucky reader, but I didn’t do it. Maybe next year!

My attempt at getting a nice product shot…but still a bit meh.

Hope you enjoyed this post, next up is picking the plums from the front yard.  I feel pretty lucky to have fresh fruit in my yards, it’s not very common in Vancouver.

Cherries are okay to me, too much work for such a small amount of fruit! And that damn seed inside…

All the cherries are now frozen. Want to buy a bag? haha.
