Havana Restaurant

Strange, the Urbanspoon site says Havana Cafe, while the restaurant site is Havana Restaurant.

Anyways.. after the late lunch, KB and I walked up and down Commercial. While heading North, we passed Havana and saw that they had a special for sangria that day. Now I have a friend who is obsessed with sangria, and will do almost anything to get some.  So we called her up and she said she’d come after dinner. We put our name down for the outdoor seating, for which there was a long wait.  Almost no one was sitting inside, who would want to on such a nice day?

The way their patio is set up, it offers a great opportunity to people watch, from both sides.  I should have gotten another picture, as almost every table had a pitcher of sangria, either red or white.

Since I was still okay with the food from Waazubees earlier, and because I wanted to save space for something later, I didn’t get anything.  The two girls however decided to share a pitcher of Champagne Sangria.  I think they should have just got a pitcher each, why bother sharing?! Next time girls, next time…

However, if I do decide to come back again one day, I want to try the chicharonnes and ceviche.. been craving for some good Latin American food since I came back from Costa Rica.

This pitcher of Champagne Sangria is usually $25, but the special of the day was $3 off all pitchers, making it $22.

Lots of mint leaves, strawberries and oranges.

Really really big wooden spoon.  Stained red from being in countless pitchers of red wine sangria I bet.  I brought up the topic that this spoon is similar to what most Asian kids were spanked by.

Even though I wasn’t having enough, the server and the girls were nice enough to get me a glass so I could try some.  I couldn’t taste any hint of alcohol, and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. On one hand, this deceptiveness of the drink could spell disaster for some, but on the other hand it’s just like drinking juice! I guess that’s why it appeals to my friend…heh.

Havana Cafe is one of my favourite breakfast spots in the lower mainland. You should really have some breakfast with your sangria =P

I’m not really a wine guy, but I’ll definitely have beer with my breakfast. :D

Their sangria is expensive IMO, decent. However, it’s the patio sidewalk seating that makes up for the cost!
