Vancouver Chinatown Night Market

Two nightmarkets in one night, is it possible? Yeaaaaaaa! After having Wally’s Burgers for lunch, we went home and then made our way to the Chinatown Night Market around dinner time.  I wanted to go to try the fresh rice noodle rolls that ESR was talking about in their post, and also cause I haven’t been to the nightmarket in so long.

Details about the Vancouver Chinatown Night Market.

Date: May 15 to Sep. 6, 2009.
Fri., Sat. & Sun.
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Venue: Keefer St. / Main St. <Google map

Found it! It’s about near the middle of the street.

Didn’t get a picture of him ladling the rice mixture into the pan, but this is what steams it and cooks it.

Taking one pan out and scraping it off.

Now I don’t know what I was thinking, but I ordered the “hand fry steam rice roll” cause I saw, oh hand. Duhhhhhhhh……that’s just the normal rice rolls that are already pre-made and then pan fried with like soy sauce. Here he is starting mine…and this is also about the time that I realized I ordered the wrong thing.

Here is my first order. Mmmmm good, but not fresh! So I went back and ordered the correct one this time. I felt like an idiot, for ordering the wrong thing and for also spending $6 on ….rice rolls. -_____-.

So here’s what I wanted. Mmmmm. It was so good, just knowing that it was freshly prepared. I would have liked it if he cut it up a bit, it came all together and was difficult to eat.

Couple more pictures…just the back of a food stall.

Some coconuts for $2.50. They were $3.50 at the Richmond one…

If u happen to be in Yaohan mall foodcourt in Richmond, the stall that sells wonton noodles and congees also sells these cook to order rice rolls. They are pretty good too. I have tried the beef and the chinese donut rice noodle rolls and they are delicious.

Hahahaha… the guy who runs the steam noodles booth is someone I know.
I, more or less, asked him out several years ago. Although he wasn’t on the market, he was flattered and super nice to me.
I get free food if I ever stop by.
    =P
Which makes me feel guilty so I try to avoid it.
He doesn’t take no for an answer well.

    Yummy noodles.
    =D
    *tummy rumbles*

Thanks Jonnek. I rarely visit Yaohan anymore because my parents don’t go, but when I do, I’ll keep this in mind.

So are you going to hook me up with this free food?!

You’d have to come with me the next time you buy it. He tends to wave away cash if he sees it is my friends buying from him. I always feel awkward about it and tell him to just take it form them or at the very least, give a discount.

I have no clue how much it takes to make it. I’m sure it’s cheap enough for a profit but I still feel bad… like I’m using him.
    =P

But sometimes, I think it makes him feel magnanimous? Maybe it’s why Asian elders bicker over the bill.
    What do you think?
