Always looking to save money, I think I’m going to start getting into gardening. My parents used to grow a lot in our backyard, we had chives, strawberries, leeks, onions, tomatoes, zucchinis, squash and grapes. Not to mention the 4 different fruit trees that are on our property, cherry, apple, plum, and walnuts!
So I’ve noticed this plant growing near the edge of the soil, and picked a few leaves to smell. It’s minty and lemony, what could it be….lemon balm!
With so much to use, not just what you see in the picture below, I’m excited to use it for cooking. I decided I’d just make tea for now and think of recipes for later.
Pick a handful of fresh leaves, crush them up or rip them, and pour hot water over them. Steep for 2-3 minutes for the flavor the fully release, and sweeten with honey.
Remove the leaves if you want, but I left them in, it’s not a big deal. Very light lemony flavor, and it’s also a relaxing tea, just like chamomile.
