On a nice Saturday, Kevin and I went down to Granville Island to take part in the Granville Island Brewing tour. Too bad there was no beer actually being made while we were inside the brewery.
If you sign up for the VIP list on their site, you can print out a 2for1 coupon for the tour.
$9.75+tax=$10.24. Divide that by 2 and it was $5.12 for a tour and 4 tasters. Very good deal I must say.
The tour itself was short, probably 15min max, and the brewing part is also very small. It’s just to the left of the taproom, which is beside the shop. Everyone should know that beer is made from 4 main ingredients, malt, hops, yeast, and water. We started from the very corner, where our tour guide talked about the different kinds of malt used in their beer. She scooped some out of the bags and let us sample them.
Anyways….after this I don’t remember much, I wasn’t paying much attention, I just wanted to get it over and get my beer! If you’re really interested, this site is a good read.
So out we go, to the long table reserved for the tours.
Cute little sampler glasses (6 ounce).
While waiting for our tour guide to pour the beer.
The four beers currently on tap, from left to right.
GIBitter (Limited Release), Brockton IPA, Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale, Cypress Honey Lager.
Oh yea, my mini-Moo card.
GIBitter was…very bitter and strong. Too strong for me, so I didn’t like it. Too bad, a month ago the Limited Release flavor was Ginger Beer!
I liked the Brockton IPA the most, with the Maple Cream Ale coming in a very close second. The Honey Lager was very light, with very little flavor, not impressed.
Overall, it was a good tour, just under an hour, and a good way to learn something new and get some beer for cheap.
