Thanks goes out to Jeff for introducing me to this place.
Located just one block south from Rupert and Grandview, you probably wouldn’t think much of it due to its location.
Hu Tieu Kho. Help me out here, I don’t remember what’s in this completely, but it’s dry rice noodles with pork, squid, prawn and some other stuff.
Bún bò Huế -about $7
I remember I would never order this because the pictures made it seem like it was really spicy. Really, it’s not that spicy, at least at this restaurant. They told me they make it this way so that people won’t get surprised if they order it, not knowing what it is. Also this way, the customer can choose how spicy they want it to be.
Bún bò Huế usually includes thin slices of marinated beef shank, chunks of well-cooked oxtail, and pig’s knuckles or pork. It can also include cubes of congealed pig blood, which has a color between dark brown and maroon, and a texture resembling gelatin.
Another day, another bowl of Bún bò Huế. This time went with Victor after school.
You can see some meatballs top right, the pigs blood bottom right and the pig knuckle bottom left.
A close up of the pigs knuckle.
The owner was nice, even gave us some dessert after.
Now it’s not like I don’t get pho, I just get bored of it after a while. Their soup base is very clear though. Don’t know if they use MSG, but next time go I’ll ask.
