Hungry after school, my friends and I decided on Mui Garden on Victoria and 43rd. I’m pretty sure I’ve been to Mui Garden a bit when I was younger, but since I got my license (and accompanying freedom), I don’t eat around my neighbourhood much anymore.
Mui Garden is known for two things, their Hainan Chicken, and Curry. We didn’t get either of these because we’re poor starving students and so had to go for the tea time menu instead, where everything is under $7.
Up on the wall, a poster of the history of Mui Garden.
Like all HK-style cafes, you get a drink with a set meal. Normally I get milk tea or lemon tea, but I decided for half coffee, half milk tea, called Ying Yeung. I’m not a huge fan of coffee, but this was okay. It was blended well but a little too sweet for me.
Victor got Pan-Fried Udon with BBQ Pork in XO Sauce. It looks to be a decent portion for $6.95. His was the first to come out as the others were all baked, so this left him finishing first and watching us eat.
Jeff and I got the Portuguese Chicken on Rice, for $6.95. It was very similar to curry, and I would enjoy it more if there was more sauce.
Finally, Chak got a dish that a lot of my friends will always order, baked pork chop on rice. $6.95.
What’s so good about it that people will keep ordering it again and again? I’ve never had it actually…
All in all, decent filling food that’s close by home. Seeing as how they’ve branched out to 4 other locations around the lower mainland, I say they’re doing something right.
