Mexicali

Mexicali was first introduced to me two summers ago by a friend. We had just come from skimboarding at Spanish Banks and were super hungry from spending an entire morning/afternoon out on the beach. Ever since then, eating at Mexicali has always been associated with skimboarding and summer.

There are 4 specials in this cheap tex-mex restaurant that are absolutely guaranteed to fill you up for under $10. What I find strange but yet so endearing is the fact that it’s owned and run by a Vietnamese guy called Lee. He’s really friendly and will take the time to talk to you.

5 stars fresh salsa? Yes.
Wonderful food, good price?  YES.
Very fine Mexican taste? Sort of.

The pictures have faded, but here’s what the 4 different specials are.

1. 2 Soft of Crunchy Beef Tacos + Pop or Slushy Limonade – $5
2. Beef or Chicken Quesadilla + Mexi Fries and Pop or Slushy Limonade – $6
3. Beef Redondo Roll-Up + Mexi Fries and Pop or Slushy Limonade – $6
4. Enchilada w/ Rice and Refried or Black Beans + Pop or Slushy Limonade – $7

Slushy Limonade. Clearly this is a superior choice above your typical can of pop!

Below is the massive Beef Redondo Roll Up.
I’ve had two orders of this before, but I sure felt like I had ate an elephant after..
